Southwest MN Christian High School

School Hours:    School hours are from 8:15 am to 3:15 pm, Monday through Friday

Accreditation:
Southwest MN Christian High School is accredited by Minnesota Non-Public School Accrediting Association (MNNSA). Our sports and speech programs are governed by the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL), we receive financial and legislative support from the Minnesota Independent School Foundation (MISF) to whom we pay membership fees, and we are members of Christian Schools International (CSI).

Demographics:  We have 137 students in grades 9 -12. These students represent 120 families. Freshmen – 32, Sophomores – 32, Juniors – 36, Seniors - 37. These students represent 110 families.  These families represent 20 different churches from 7 denominations. These students come from rural towns within a 40 mile radius of Edgerton. Most of our students come from feeder schools in Edgerton, Leota, Hills, Chandler and Worthington.

Faculty:  All faculty members are carefully selected on the basis of academic excellence, Christian philosophy, dedication to the teaching profession, and commitment to God's Word as the authoritative guide for Christian living. Teachers all have a Bachelor's degree in their field, and many have Master's degrees. Teachers are certified. We have 11 classroom teachers on staff.

Tuition Rates:
The cost of Education at SWMCH is $5,400.00
The tuition for the second child is $150 less and if three children attend at the same time, the third child is $300 less.

Tuition Assistance:  Assistance is available upon request through a 3rd party agency.

Admission Procedures:  Admissions criteria include family support of our school philosophy, financial support for the school, an established church relationship, and a Christian commitment based on the infallible Word of God. Application for admission can be made through the school office. Southwest MN Christian High School admits students of any race, color, or national ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate in the administration of its education policies, admission programs, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school administered programs.

Lunch Program:  Southwest MN Christian High School participates in the Minnesota School lunch program. We have 2 cooks on staff who prepare a hot, balanced meal everyday. The cost of the meal is $1.65 ($33.00/month). Some families who qualify may apply for free or reduced price lunches. The meal is the same as everyone else, but at a reduced price or free.

Transportation:  Bussing is provided through district bussing from Edgerton, Luverne and Pipestone districts.  Car pools are also coordinated.

Special Needs:  Southwest employs a full-time resource teacher who works with students one-on-one.

Technology:
Southwest MN Christian High School has a computer in every classroom. We own four laptop computers for portability. We have a computer lab that provides 24 desktop computers. Our media center consists of a 6000 volume library as well as 8 desktop computers. All computers can print to 3 laser printers located throughout the school. The entire school is on a network and all stations have access to the internet. Students have access to most of the computers in the school provided they sign a network usage contract stating they will abide by the rules and use the computers and the network responsibly. We have video projectors, a slide projector, ceiling mounted LCD projectors in six classrooms, a portable LCD projector, 3 VCRs, a 3 DVD players and 3 large screen TVs. Every classroom is wired to cable TV as well. Students also have access to 3 digital still cameras and 2 digital video cameras for special projects.

Chapels:  An important part of the spiritual and educational program of Southwest Minnesota Christian School is the chapel assemblies program. Chapel services are held every week, and special assemblies are planned throughout the year.

Extra Curricular:  Our students are involved in the following: Band, Basketball (boys and girls), Chapel planning, Cheerleading (girls), Choir, Cross Country (boys and girls), Drama, Golf (boys and girls), Leaders for Life, Prayer Share Group, Recreational P.E., Players (drama), Reflector (student newspaper), Science Club, Sequel (yearbook), Statisticians/managers, Student Government, Soccer (boys), Speech, Track (boys and girls), and Volleyball (girls).

How is the school governed?
Southwest MN Christian High School is governed by a School Board. This board consists of constituents elected to 3 year terms of service. These constituents are nominated from various groups cooperating with the school. The entire society elects board members at the Annual Society Meeting. The School Board meets on the first Monday of every month.

SWMCH is a Christian school. Southwest MN Christian High School recognizes that our children are image-bearers of God. We are committed to develop each student's spiritual, intellectual, emotional, social, physical, and academic potential in a caring Christian community where all activities seek to be motivated by our commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We help students learn to study the world in the light of the Bible. We strive to help students understand how each area of life fits into God's great plan and how God's will is important in all of life. Biblically based education guides children toward their commitment to serve God and neighbor in all aspects of life.
